Students are taught to develop numerical, analytical and investigative skills, with a greater emphasis on mathematics in the real world. Topics include number; algebra; geometry; probability and statistics.



At GCSE level there is a greater emphasis on the functional element of Mathematics through problem solving and applications of Mathematics in the real world.  Students encounter arange of teaching and learning styles.  These include applying Mathematics in context; problem solving; reasoning and the functional elements of Mathematics.

Students follow the Edexcel examination course leading to a GCSE entry in one of two tiers:

  • Higher Grades A* - D
  • Foundation Grades C – G
The programme of study continues to develop the four key areas of Mathematics: Number,Algebra; Shape; Statistics and Probability.  The course is assessed at the end of Year 11 and consists of two papers, one with a calculator and one without a calculator.
