The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Changes to the data protection regulations come into force on 25 May 2018

The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the result of four years of work by the EU to bring data protection legislation into line with new, previously unforeseen ways that data is now used.

Currently, the UK relies on the Data Protection Act 1998, but this will be superseded by the new legislation.  It introduces tougher fines for non-compliance and breaches, and gives people more say over what companies can do with their data.

The changes to the regulations impact on everyone and Gosforth Federated Academies Ltd is working hard in advance of the deadline to ensure we are ready for implementation.

What this means to students and parents

Over the coming weeks and months we will be publishing a number of documents ahead of the changes coming into force, which will also outline what the changes mean to students and parents.

The Academy is taking these changes to the regulations seriously and a working group has been set up in school to ensure we are compliant and that information provided to us, which is necessary to run the school will be collected, stored and disposed of in accordance with the law.
